SAVANNAH, Ga. — A sold-out field of 288 golfers turned out Monday, Oct. 19, at The Landings Club in Savannah for the 14th edition of Parker’s Kitchen’s Fueling the Community charity tournament, and the day ended with more than $615,000 raised for schools. Both the turnout and the money set records for the event.

The field was so large that it took two courses to hold everyone. Donations had already passed the original fundraising target of $550,000 before the first group teed off.

The proceeds go to the Parker’s Kitchen Fueling the Community Program, which sends money to public and private schools in each community that has a Parker’s store, across Georgia and South Carolina. The company said it picked school districts as the beneficiaries. Since the fund began in 2011, it has raised more than $4 million, money schools have put toward scholarships, teacher grants, awards and classroom supplies.

Players also chased the Parker’s Chewy Trophy and bought raffle chances, with prizes donated by the convenience store chain’s business partners.

The host club sits inside The Landings, a gated community on Skidaway Island about twelve miles southeast of downtown Savannah, across the Diamond Causeway. The development covers about 4,500 acres and has several golf courses, along with marina facilities and access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Building there began in the early 1970s on land once used for timber and farming, and it has grown into one of the largest gated developments on the Georgia coast.
