SAVANNAH, Ga. — Families looking for a free, organized way to celebrate Halloween in Savannah have several public options over the next week, with the city, Chatham County and the Savannah Police Department each putting on events.
The first is the city’s yearly family night at Grayson Stadium, 1401 E. Victory Drive, on Oct. 24. Kids can collect candy from decorated vehicles from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and a Howl-O-Ween gathering for dogs and other pets runs from 5 to 6 p.m. Organizers have listed a haunted house, face painting, a DJ, food trucks and city vehicles on display.
Chatham County Parks and Recreation takes over on Halloween itself, Oct. 31, at Memorial Stadium on John J. Scott Drive. Vendors and a health and wellness expo open at 9 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by a free flag football matchup between Winn Army Community Hospital and Naval Hospital Beaufort. A county trunk or treat follows in the stadium’s visitor lot from 2 to 4 p.m., along with an Army equipment display.
That evening, the Savannah Police Department opens its Blue Light Fright Night, a haunted walk-through with candy stops that runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The address is 1710 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., home of the department’s Central Precinct. Treat bags will be ready for children using strollers or wheelchairs. Pets other than emotional-support animals are not allowed inside, and real weapons are banned.
All three events are free, and costumes are welcome at each one. Times and weather plans can shift, so families should check with organizers before heading out.
