SAVANNAH, Ga. — Democratic governor candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms spent Saturday courting voters in Savannah, closing the day at the local NAACP’s yearly Freedom Fund Banquet with 10 days to go before the Nov. 3 general election.

The former Atlanta mayor kept her pitch to the banquet crowd simple: show up and vote. She told supporters that sitting out an election is still a choice, and she pledged to keep traveling the state through Election Day.

Bottoms also took aim at the money in the race. She said Republican nominee Rick Jackson has poured more than $100 million into his campaign, much of it into ads attacking her, while polling shows the contest even.

Earlier in the day she held a barbershop talk at Raw Image Barbershop and Boutique, saying barbershops and salons are where neighbors have frank conversations about their community.

In an interview during the visit, Bottoms said she supports a moratorium on putting up new Flock license plate cameras while policies on their use are rewritten. She said access could be limited to certain people, and that if misuse keeps happening, police might eventually need a warrant to search the camera network.

Her comments come after the Savannah Police Department fired six employees over alleged misuse of the camera technology. Bottoms also discussed data centers and immigration enforcement during the stop.

Jackson and Bottoms lead a long ballot this fall, with dozens of races in front of Georgia voters. Early voting continues this week ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3.
