SAVANNAH, Ga. — River Street now has a candy shop at each end. Savannah’s Candy Kitchen marked the opening of its newest store, called Savannah’s Candy Kitchen West End, with a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Savannah, Ga.

The new shop is at 427 W. River St. It is the company’s third storefront in the city, joining the original River Street store on the east end of the waterfront, the one with the big copper pot hanging out front, and the shop in City Market.

The celebration ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and was open to the community, with local leaders and friends of the business invited to stop by. Photos from the event show the ribbon cutting outside the new West End storefront.

The business is family owned. Rhett Strickland runs it with his mother, Tonya Strickland, and in announcing the opening he said the new shop gives the family a larger role along the riverfront, where the business has deep roots.

The shop is best known worldwide for its Georgia pralines, and its cases also hold chocolates, brittles, cakes and pies. Free samples, bright lights and the smell of fresh candy are part of the pitch at the door of every store.

The company has grown well past its home city. Beyond its three Savannah stores, the candy maker now has shops in Atlanta, Nashville and Maryland, and it also sells online and by mail order.

With the West End store open, shoppers who start at the copper pot on the east end can now find the same pralines at the other end of River Street, with the City Market shop a short walk away.
