SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah gets at least three more days of summer-like warmth before a cold front ushers in cooler, drier air for the weekend, forecasters said Wednesday.

The National Weather Service office in Charleston, S.C., which covers the Savannah area, calls for increasing clouds Wednesday with a high near 81 and a southeast breeze of 5 to 10 mph. Overnight lows stay mild, around 67. Thursday should be the warmest day of the stretch, peaking around 82 under plenty of sun.

Those readings sit well above normal for early November. Wednesday began with temperatures in the 60s, a few light showers drifting in from the ocean and patches of fog that could slow the morning drive. Gusts could approach 20 mph in the afternoon, though it should be less windy than Tuesday.

People heading to the beach or out on the water should expect waves of 2 to 3 feet and a higher risk of rip currents along the coast.

Friday brings the best chance of rain this week as the front arrives. The weather service puts the odds of showers at 30 percent, mostly after 1 p.m., with a high near 81. A thunderstorm is possible, but the risk of severe weather is low, and inland areas are more likely to see rain than the coast.

Behind the front, Saturday turns sunny with a high near 77 and a low around 53. Sunday tops out near 73, and Sunday night dips to about 50. Monday should reach about 71, with lows in the 40s early next week.

Forecasters are also watching a low-pressure area south of Bermuda that has about a 40 percent chance of becoming a subtropical storm over open water. It poses no threat to the Georgia coast.
