SAVANNAH, Ga. — Baldwin Park front porches became stages Saturday as 41 bands played during the second Savannah Porchfest, drawing neighbors and visitors from across the Coastal Empire for music, dancing and food.

The daylong slate ran about seven hours and wrapped up with a closing set at Hop Atomica. Performers offered jazz, blues, rock, folk and Americana, including a New Orleans-style jazz set by Kanola. Lawns, sidewalks and streets filled with listeners as porches up and down the neighborhood took turns as small outdoor stages.

Organizers said the festival gave people a chance to spend an easy, carefree day together, with music as a shared language, and they are already looking ahead to holding it again next year. They said it was a chance for the neighborhood to dance and enjoy the afternoon in the open air.

Attendees said this year’s crowd was larger than last year’s and that they want the outdoor tradition to continue. For some residents, the afternoon was a way to walk beyond their own block and be part of the wider neighborhood for a few hours.

One performer said the daytime setting was a welcome change from dark club backstages, making it easier to see the crowd and meet people who do not usually turn up at typical night shows. A band host on the block said gatherings like this feel positive and upbeat and give neighbors a reason to take pride in the street.

Guests wandered from porch to porch through the afternoon, sampling food and lingering for sets. People who spoke after the music said they were glad to see the community come together around live performances rather than the noise of the wider world, and they hope the second year becomes a regular fall stop in Baldwin Park.
