Atlanta, Georgia – Georgia Power has launched an open comment period for its 2025 Request for Proposals (RFP) aimed at procuring 500 megawatts (MW) of Energy Storage System (ESS) resources. This initiative follows the recent approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) as part of Georgia Power’s 2022 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
The company is targeting for the procured ESS resources to be operational by the end of 2031. This significant push reflects Georgia Power’s strategic focus on enhancing its energy infrastructure to meet future energy demands, including ongoing investments in energy storage to improve grid reliability and provide benefits to customers.
The RFP will be overseen by Ascend Analytics, an independent evaluator known for their strength in market intelligence within the power industry. This procurement is notable in that it mandates a storage discharge duration of at least two hours, ensuring that the ESS can support the electrical grid during peak demand periods.
To participate in this process, interested bidders must register through the Ascend Analytics Power Procurement platform, a move aimed at streamlining submissions. All proposals and communications during the bidding process are required to be submitted exclusively through this platform, with traditional methods such as phone, email, or mail being disallowed.
A Bidder’s Conference is scheduled to take place on September 29, 2025, allowing prospective bidders to engage both in person and virtually, provided they are registered participants.
Georgia Power currently serves approximately 2.8 million customers across all but four counties in Georgia.
