Emergency responders at the scene of a house fire in Savannah.

News Summary

The Savannah Fire Department is investigating two separate house fires that resulted in the tragic deaths of two adult males. The first fire occurred on Van Buren Avenue without injuries, while the second fire on Pine Drive claimed the lives of two men. Additional investigations are underway related to a third fire that killed four members of the Davis family. This string of incidents has raised concerns about fire safety and the importance of smoke detectors in homes.

Savannah Fire Department Investigates Deadly House Fires

Two adult males were found dead in separate house fires that occurred in Savannah earlier this week. The fires have prompted investigations from local authorities as they collaborate with fire department officials to determine the cause.

Fire Incident on Van Buren Avenue

On early Sunday morning, the Savannah Fire Department (SFD) responded to a residential fire on the 7000 block of Van Buren Avenue around 12:03 a.m. After receiving reports of heavy flames, fire crews were dispatched to the scene and entered fast attack mode upon arrival. Approximately one hour later, at 1:03 a.m., the fire was declared under control. Fortunately, the house was abandoned at the time of the blaze, and no injuries or displacements were reported.

Deaths of Two Males on Pine Drive

In a separate incident, two adult males were found deceased following a house fire that broke out on Pine Drive at Gamble Road on Wednesday night. Fire crews were called to this fire at 11:15 p.m. and initiated suppression and search operations. Investigators are currently looking into the cause of both this fire and the deaths of the two men.

Tragic Davis Family Fire

In another devastating incident earlier this week, four members of the Davis family lost their lives in a house fire on Stilson Road. Russell Davis, 56, his wife Wendi, 55, and their daughters Susannah, 19, and Haley, 17, were found deceased inside their home. The emergency was first reported at around 4:54 a.m. by a volunteer firefighter.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been accidental, with foul play not suspected. The family was discovered in various rooms of the home, with Wendi and two daughters found together in one room, and Russell in his bedroom. The cause of the fire is believed to have originated near a computer desk located in the back center of the house. Notably, investigators have reported that there were no smoke detectors present in the Davis home, which may have contributed to the tragedy.

Importance of Safety Measures

In light of these alarming incidents, fire officials have emphasized the pressing need for residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes to prevent future tragedies. Authorities are rallying local communities to prioritize fire safety and enhance awareness of fire prevention measures.

Collaboration Among Local Fire Departments

The investigation into each of the house fires is being conducted by the Savannah Fire Department, with additional support from other local fire departments, including the Statesboro Fire Department and several volunteer fire departments. These collaborations aim to ensure thorough examinations of the incidents, helping to provide clarity and more effective safety recommendations for residents in Bulloch County.

These fire incidents mark a rare occurrence for the area, as it has been over a dozen years since a fire claimed multiple lives, raising concerns and prompting discussions on fire safety within the community.
