On Friday, July 4, all city offices and facilities will be closed in observance of Independence Day. However, essential emergency services will remain operational to ensure public safety. Residents should note that sanitation services will be partially affected due to the holiday. While residential garbage and recycling collection will follow the usual schedule on July 4, yard waste collection services will not take place, resuming on Saturday, July 5. Additionally, street sweepers will not be active on July 4, but will return to regular operations on Monday, July 9. Both the Dean Forest Landfill and the Bacon Park Transfer Station will close for the holiday and will reopen on July 5 for normal business hours.

Independence Day Celebration Events

The highlight of Independence Day in Savannah will be the Independence Day Celebration at Savannah’s Waterfront. The fireworks display will commence at approximately 9:30 p.m., launching from a barge in the Savannah River. Optimal viewing areas for this event include Rousakis Riverfront Plaza, Plant Riverside District, Eastern Wharf, and various downtown rooftop bars. The show will include a patriotic music soundtrack, making for a festive atmosphere.

Admission to the celebration is free, and many waterfront restaurants will feature food and drink specials throughout the day. However, it is important that any alcoholic beverages be obtained from licensed vendors and consumed in designated outdoor areas using plastic to-go cups.
