Savannah, Georgia – The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has announced the official start date for the upcoming academic year, with students returning to classes on August 4, 2025. To assist families in preparing for the new school year, the district has launched an online Back to School Hub, which is now live and accessible to all families in the area.

The Back to School Hub offers a range of essential resources including student registration, open house schedules, bell times, supply lists, uniform guidelines, and information about school nutrition programs. One of the notable highlights this year is that lunch will be free for all students during the 2025-26 school year.

Families can conveniently register their students online through the website www.sccpss.com/families/registration. For those requiring assistance with the registration process, it is advisable to have the necessary documents ready, including proof of residence, birth certificates, and identification. In-person registration support is also available at the Student & Family Service Center, located at 768 Grant St.. Appointments for assistance can be scheduled by calling 912-395-5584 or emailing enrollment@sccpss.com.

This year, the annual Back to School Expo will not take place, but there will be various open house events scheduled across different schools in the district to help students and families acclimate ahead of the school year. Specific open house dates include:

  • July 30: Open houses for Kindergarten and Pre-K at various locations.
  • July 31: Open houses for several schools from 3-7 p.m..
  • August 1: Additional open houses for select schools from 3:30-6:15 p.m.. Note that time slots may vary based on students’ last names, and staggered schedules are implemented at participating schools.

In addition to the general district-wide schedule, some schools have unique start dates. Oglethorpe’s first day of school will commence on July 28, with TIMA also starting on the same day. Savannah Classical is set to begin its academic year on August 5, with a special Back to School Birthday Bash scheduled for August 6. Families with new or returning students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to review the Summer 2025 Reading Assignments available on the school’s website.

Additional resources such as supply lists, orientation details, and other pertinent information will continually be communicated to families via email and social media channels as the school year approaches.

As the district gears up for the new academic year, parents are urged to take advantage of the online hub, participate in upcoming open houses, and ensure their children are adequately prepared for a successful school year ahead.
