Savannah – As families in Savannah prepare for the new academic year, numerous back-to-school events will take place to assist students and parents throughout the community. The first day of school for the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is set for August 4, 2025, with various private schools also starting the new year in the coming weeks.

Local churches, community organizations, and businesses are organizing events aimed at providing students with school supplies, food, entertainment, and additional resources to ease the back-to-school transition. Families are encouraged to start gathering school supplies from their students’ lists in preparation for the upcoming school year.

One of the major events is the Back-to-School Bash hosted by Woodlawn Baptist Church on July 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will feature a variety of food, games, and a school supply giveaway. Later that same day, Bull Street Baptist Church will conduct its 5th Annual Back 2 School Fest from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering musical performances, free food, book bag giveaways, gas cards, and free haircuts.

For parents who work in hospitality and tourism, the mobile Back-to-School supply event known as Touring Toward Tomorrow will be held on July 29. Supplies will be delivered by Old Town Trolley across various areas of Savannah. Registration for this event closes on July 26.

On July 27, Chatham Subaru will host a Back-to-School Drive at Enmarket Arena from noon to 4 p.m., distributing over 1,000 filled book bags, free haircuts, and a magic show among other activities. Also on that day, the First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church will give away 1,000 free book bags during its Gospel on the Greens Back to School Block Party at Forsyth Park starting at 6 p.m.

The Savannah Police Department is also organizing its annual Back-to-School Bash on August 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing food, entertainment, and essential school supplies for students. Concurrently, Uncut Barber Academy will offer free back-to-school haircuts that day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is required to register for this service by August 1.

On August 3, Hair by Nicole will host a Back to School Expo at Lake Mayer Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., distributing school supplies to participants. Additionally, Curtis V. Cooper Health Care Inc. will run a Back-to-School Bash on August 9 from 8 a.m. to noon, offering school supplies, games, prizes, and health exams to students.

Looking ahead, Tharros Place is planning a Back-to-School fundraiser on September 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palmetto Club, which will support education for survivors of human trafficking.

In preparation for enrollment, the Savannah-Chatham school district will hold registration assistance events on July 16 at Southwest Middle School and July 24 at the Family and Student Services Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Translators will be available during these events to assist non-English speaking families. It is important to note that returning students in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School system do not need to re-register, while online registration remains available at sccpss.com under the Families tab.
