POOLER, Ga. — Livingood’s, the family appliance dealer that got its start in Savannah half a century ago, now runs the business from a much bigger home base. The company held a ribbon cutting Thursday for its new headquarters and showroom on Highway 80 in Pooler.
The building covers 138,000 square feet. Besides company offices, it holds a showroom with working kitchen appliances shoppers can try, including Sub-Zero, Wolf and Thermador lines, and about 4,000 square feet set aside for kitchen and bath plumbing, with a shower display that lets customers compare dozens of heads.
Company leaders said the move roughly doubles both showroom and warehouse room, which lets the business grow its delivery team and office support staff and move goods to customers more quickly. They pointed to growth on the south and west sides of Pooler as the reason more space was needed.
The business was started in 1976 by Phyllis Livingood and her late husband, Dale, as a small appliance shop on Skidaway Road. Over the years it added stores in Pooler and in Okatie, South Carolina.
Pooler city leaders and neighbors turned out for the opening. Todd Livingood, the company’s vice president of operations, said the old space had limited what the family could offer, and the larger site finally gives room for an expanded delivery operation, more office workers and a bigger stock of goods on hand. He also credited the contractors with finishing the build on a short timeline.
To mark 50 years, the store is running a clearance promotion tied to a local cause. When shoppers buy a marked-down item, the company gives part of the proceeds to the cancer and research pavilion named for JC and Nancy Lewis at St. Joseph’s/Candler, the Savannah hospital system.
The company has stayed family owned through its five decades and says its focus remains on customer service and on helping buyers find appliances that fit their homes and their budgets.
