News Summary

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has introduced ‘Let’s Talk,’ an AI-driven chatbot designed to enhance community engagement and streamline communication. Approved by the school board at a cost of $452,100 for three years, this platform provides customer support in 14 languages and aims to improve response times and gather essential data for strategic decision-making. The chatbot will assist users in finding answers to FAQs and allowing real-time feedback to enhance overall communication within the district.

Savannah, Georgia – The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has launched a new AI-driven chatbot named “Let’s Talk,” aimed at improving community engagement and facilitating communication within the district. This initiative, developed by K12 Insight, is promoted as the only AI-powered, all-in-one customer service platform specifically designed for educational institutions.

The school board approved a subscription for the Let’s Talk platform at a cost of $452,100 for a three-year duration during its Regular Meeting on May 7. The chatbot has been incorporated into the district’s homepage (sccpss.com) and is accessible via the Let’s Talk tab prominently located on the website’s right side.

Let’s Talk aims to assist users, referred to as “customers,” in obtaining answers to frequently asked questions, requesting information, and providing real-time feedback regarding their experiences with the school system. The platform is designed to enhance community feedback mechanisms, reduce response times to inquiries, and identify potential issues before they develop into significant crises.

According to the Executive Director of Communications for the district, the introduction of Let’s Talk marks a major step forward in creating a positive school culture and climate. The chatbot supports communication in a total of 14 languages, including English and 13 others: Spanish, French, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, Tagalog, Japanese, Hindi, and German.

The Superintendent of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools has indicated that Let’s Talk will also equip the district with essential data that will aid in strategic decision-making processes. The platform is designed to collect input from users in the form of questions, concerns, or suggestions, allowing the school system to identify trends, address ongoing challenges, and celebrate successful initiatives within the community.

One of the key features of Let’s Talk is its built-in workflow automation, which ensures that unresolved or overdue inquiries are escalated to designated team members. If a dialogue remains unanswered for more than two days or is classified as high priority, it will automatically be assigned to a supervisor. Customers are able to respond with either a “thumbs up” to close the dialogue or a “thumbs down” if they would like to receive follow-up questions or submit an email inquiry.

While emails generated through the chatbot will go to a live staff member, immediate responses may not always be available 24/7. Users are provided with the option to reopen dialogues within the Let’s Talk system or submit new inquiries if they feel their concerns have not been adequately addressed.

The system tracks user interactions effectively, routing questions and input to appropriate team members, including school leaders or department heads, thereby ensuring that community concerns are addressed in a timely manner. The Executive Director encouraged community members to engage actively with the Let’s Talk platform to help enhance the quality of customer experiences and ultimately improve the educational environment for students and families.

This innovative tool represents the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s commitment to enhancing communication and fostering a collaborative atmosphere, reaffirming their dedication to supporting the needs of the community.
