Savannah, GA – Quentin Brooks has made history as the first golfer from Bethesda Academy to sign with Savannah State University, marking a significant milestone for both the athlete and his school. The signing ceremony was held at Bethesda Academy, attended by friends, family, and supporters who celebrated this achievement.

Brooks, a standout player, showcased his talents during a recent dual match against Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) on September 4, 2025. In this event, he, along with teammates Justin Woods and Hayden Plybon, led the Savannah State men’s golf team, each recording a score of 79. Despite their efforts, Savannah State’s overall team score of 317 fell short against SCAD, who clinched victory with a score of 306.

Other members of the Savannah State team included Nathaniel Spencer with a score of 80 and Carter Patnaude who finished with 82. Lavelle Teague and Xavier Dozier added scores of 84 and 91, respectively. The low medalist for the match was Conner Scott from SCAD, who registered a score of 73.

Looking ahead, Savannah State is preparing for the 40th Annual Thomas W. Dortch HBCU Golf Classic, set to take place from September 21-23, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. This upcoming event represents an opportunity for Brooks and his teammates to showcase their skills on a significant platform.

Quentin Brooks began his golfing journey at the young age of 9 through the First Tee-Savannah program. Over the years, he has focused on honing his skills, culminating in a remarkable performance at the 2024 SCISA Class 2A tournament, where he finished second with a combined score of 152 (78-74) at Hackler Golf Course.

Additionally, Brooks participated in the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach, partnering with Savannah native and Champions Tour member Tim O’Neal. His experiences have inspired him to continue improving, aiming for a career-best round and to compete alongside influential figures in the sport.

Brooks expressed his appreciation for the support from his family, coaches, and especially his parents, who have been instrumental in his journey towards becoming a college golfer. He recognizes Savannah State University as an ideal choice for continuing his education and athletics, noting its close proximity to home and its reputation as the top HBCU in Georgia.

Acquiring a golf scholarship is a significant attainment for Brooks, aided by the Nolan Smith Foundation, which covers half of his educational expenses. Brooks hopes that his achievements in golf will inspire future student-athletes at Bethesda Academy and beyond to pursue their dreams.

Ultimately, Brooks’ historic signing is not only a personal triumph but also a beacon of inspiration for his community, representing the dedication and potential of young athletes striving to make their mark in collegiate sports.
