A glimpse into the lively lobby of the new Municipal Grand hotel, offering a unique blend of history and modern design.
Savannah’s hospitality landscape has been enhanced with the launch of the Municipal Grand hotel. Situated in the renovated municipal building at Broughton and Abercorn Streets, this new hotel features a modern mid-century design alongside historical elements. With striking accommodations, a rooftop pool, and a bar and restaurant serving creative dishes, it aims to attract both locals and visitors. The Municipal Grand hotel represents a growing trend in Savannah’s hospitality sector, establishing the city as a dynamic destination for leisure and business.
Savannah welcomed a new addition to its hospitality scene with the grand opening of the Municipal Grand hotel on Wednesday evening. Nestled at the corner of Broughton and Abercorn Streets in downtown Savannah, the hotel repurposes the old city municipal building that used to house city services including water bill payments and business license applications.
The Municipal Grand hotel is the inaugural venture for Midnight Auteur, a brand launched by the founders of Death and Company, regarded as one of America’s leading cocktail bars. This partnership has led to a distinctive renovation that blends original features of the historic municipal building with a modern mid-century design.
The completed hotel not only offers aesthetically pleasing accommodations but also boasts a rooftop pool, named the Sun Club, which provides stunning views of Savannah’s skyline. The lobby is designed as a vibrant community space that features a prominent bar and restaurant on the ground floor, altering the traditional hotel check-in experience. Guests are greeted at a hostess stand for the bar and restaurant, while the front desk check-in is strategically positioned towards the back of the lobby, near the elevators.
Municipal Grand aims to create a lively atmosphere that appeals to both locals and visitors, intentionally designed to cater more to adults rather than families with children. Food and beverage offerings will be available daily from 8 AM until 11 PM, with a diverse menu spotlighting shareable snacks and larger dishes. Featured items include:
In addition to the restaurant offerings, guest rooms are equipped with minibars that include a curated selection of spirits, coffee, teas, and glassware, emphasizing guest comfort. The overall design harmoniously incorporates mid-century aesthetics alongside rich materials, further enhancing the hotel’s allure.
The opening of the Municipal Grand hotel is part of a broader trend in Savannah’s hospitality sector, where other notable developments include the AC Hotel by Marriott, the Ritz-Carlton, and Hilton’s Curio Collection, which features The Drayton Hotel. These expansions are contributing to Savannah’s growing reputation as a vibrant destination for both leisure and business travelers.
With the launch of the Municipal Grand hotel, Savannah solidifies its status as a city that embraces historical significance while fostering modern luxury, promising an enticing experience for visitors looking to explore its unique culture and hospitality.
