The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is preparing for the upcoming school year with back-to-school events scheduled for July 16 and July 24. These in-person gatherings will provide essential information and support for families regarding registration, transportation, and school nutrition. Additionally, several community events are planned to welcome students, offering school supplies, food, and entertainment. Parents are encouraged to engage with these initiatives to ensure a smooth transition for their children as the new academic year approaches.
Savannah, GA – The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) is gearing up for the 2023-2024 school year, with classes set to commence on August 4. To facilitate a smooth transition for students and families, the district will be hosting two in-person back-to-school events on July 16 and July 24.
The first event will take place on July 16 at Southwest Middle School, while the second event is scheduled for July 24 at the Family and Student Services Center located at 400 East Broad Street, Savannah, GA. Both events will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m. Families can walk in without needing an appointment. These events are designed to provide parents and students with essential information and assistance regarding registration, transportation, and school nutrition.
Translators will also be available during the events to assist families who may require language services. It is important to note that returning SCCPSS students are not required to register again for the upcoming school year, and online registration can be completed through the district’s website under the Families tab.

Parents are encouraged to contribute information on any additional back-to-school events that could be included on the Savannah-Chatham school district’s Back to School Hub. An important event, Flau’jae Johnson’s Back to School Giveback Weekend, is set for July 25-26 at Enmarket Arena, featuring a variety of offerings. On July 25, there will be mobile mammograms from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for uninsured women (advance registration required). The following day, July 26, will host a Back to School Giveback Festival from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., providing free food, backpacks, uniforms, and performances.
