The Savannah community recently came together to mark the return to school with a series of engaging events. From a festive Back-to-School Bash hosted by Chatham Parkway Subaru to a free movie screening by Xfinity and local organizations, families enjoyed various activities. Forsyth Park buzzed with excitement during the Gospel on the Greens block party, providing resources for families. Upcoming events include movie showings and supply giveaways, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting education and local families in their back-to-school preparations.
On July 27, 2025, the Savannah community came together to celebrate the return to school with a series of engaging events aimed at bringing families and local organizations together. Chatham Parkway Subaru hosted a festive “Back to School Bash,” inviting families to enjoy various activities and gather essential supplies for the upcoming school year. Event organizers captured moments from the festivities with photographs showcasing the excitement and community spirit.
In a collaborative effort, Xfinity partnered with Southern Motors and the Georgia Southern University Paleontology department to present a free viewing of “Jurassic World Rebirth.” This family-friendly event drew a significant crowd, providing an alternative entertainment option for community members as summer wound down.
Meanwhile, Forsyth Park buzzed with energy as the First Tabernacle hosted its annual Gospel on the Greens back-to-school block party. This well-attended gathering not only offered live music and performances but also served as a platform for information on local resources available to families as they prepare for the school year ahead.
In the days leading up to the community events, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of The Element by Westin Savannah Midtown on July 24, 2025. This milestone for the hotel is expected to further enhance the local hospitality scene. Just a day earlier, Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District held “Tropic Like It’s Hot,” an event that added to the vibrant summer atmosphere in the area.
Coastal Care Partners also took the initiative on July 23, hosting a meet-and-greet for Dr. Shonna McGee, introducing her to the community as she prepares to provide health services in the area. As several community members seek to connect with local healthcare providers, this event served as an opportunity for residents to engage in health dialogues.
Looking ahead, residents can look forward to a range of events including the showing of Disney’s “The Parent Trap” (1961) at the Trustees Theater on August 3, 2025. Additionally, this fall, Savannah will welcome the “World’s Biggest Bounce House,” adding a whimsical highlight to the community’s calendar.
Upcoming back-to-school events are abundant, with notable activities such as National Night Out: Backpacks, BBQ & Back-to-School Fun on July 24, and the Back 2 School Bash on July 26 in Richmond Hill, GA. The community will also see the Back to School High Five event on July 31 and Flau’jae Johnson’s Back to School Giveback Weekend, featuring a unique mobile mammogram service on July 25, 2025.
The Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s 6th Annual Teacher Book Giveaway is scheduled for August 2, while the 13th Annual Back2School Blowout will take place on July 30, 2025. These events exemplify the community’s commitment to supporting education and providing valuable resources for local students and teachers.
As the community continues its preparations for the school season, the Savannah Downtown Business Association has stepped up, donating $1,000 to the Savannah Police Department in support of its upcoming Back to School Bash on August 2, 2025. Additionally, there remains a pressing need for supplies and donations to ensure that all children are adequately equipped for the school year.
Local organizations across Southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry have been actively organizing back-to-school supply donation events, providing crucial support to families in need. As the community rallies together, these initiatives highlight the importance of collective action in fostering educational opportunities for local youth.
