From free outdoor movie screenings to various drives for essential supplies, local organizations are working together to support families in need. Events such as the Back to School Bash and the National Night Out are fostering community engagement while addressing educational resources for students. Local initiatives showcase the commitment to ensuring all children have the supplies they need as the school year approaches.
Savannah, Georgia – The local community is abuzz with excitement as various events and giveaways celebrate the back-to-school season. Activities are taking place through the end of July and into early August, offering support and supplies to families in need while promoting community engagement.
On July 27, a free outdoor movie screening of Jurassic World Rebirth was held. This event was hosted by Xfinity in collaboration with Southern Motors and Georgia Southern University’s Paleontology department. The free occasion provided an entertaining way to bring families together during the busy back-to-school period.
Also on July 27, Chatham Parkway Subaru organized a “Back to School Bash” which included fun activities and photo opportunities shared by local residents such as Bunny Ware. This event formed part of a wider initiative to support students and their families as they prepare for the new academic year.
The Salvation Army and Chatham Parkway Toyota contributed to the back-to-school efforts by organizing a “Back to School Drive” on July 25. This drive aimed to gather essential school supplies for families facing financial challenges, ensuring that no child starts school without the necessary materials.
The festive atmosphere continued with a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Element by Westin Savannah Midtown on July 24, and a lively social event called “Tropic Like It’s Hot” held at Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District on July 23. Both events contribute to the local culture while supporting the upcoming school year through community involvement.
In addition to the larger events, numerous local donation initiatives are taking place across Southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry, with many community members stepping in to ensure children have the supplies they need. The calendar remains full with upcoming events designed to support students.
Another significant community event scheduled for July 24 is “National Night Out,” intended to foster community relationships and promote public safety. This event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bryan County Elementary.
On July 26, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the “Back 2 School Bash” took place in Belhaven, Richmond Hill, GA, providing further opportunities for students to gather necessary school items in a fun environment. The “Back to School High Five” event is also in the works, slated for July 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at RE/MAX Accent in Richmond Hill, GA, enhancing the energetic back-to-school spirit.
Sisterly ACTS plans to host a Back to School Fun Day on August 2 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond Hill, GA, aimed at providing additional supportive resources to families. Similarly, Flau’jae Johnson’s Back to School Giveback Weekend will occur on July 25-26, featuring free food, live music, and various giveaways, underscoring the community’s commitment to looking after its children.
The Back-to-School Giveback Weekend will also include mobile mammogram services offered by St. Joseph’s/Candler at the Enmarket Arena parking lot on July 25, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to addressing community health and education needs simultaneously.
As the summer winds down, the Hostess City Food and Wine Fest is set to take place on November 8, 2025. This festival aims to promote local cuisine while raising funds to assist young adults aging out of Georgia’s foster care system. Ticket prices start at $99 for general admission, with early bird options available for $79 until September 8. VIP ticket holders will enjoy perks such as access to a special lounge and exclusive tastings the night before the festival.
