Savannah will host its first “Celebration of the Burger,” featuring the Eat It and Like It Burger Bash, from August 18th to 28th. This inaugural event highlights the region’s diverse burger offerings and will include participation from over 30 restaurants across Savannah, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, and Beaufort, South Carolina.

The Burger Bash aims to promote local eateries and celebrate the culinary creativity in the area. Participating restaurants will showcase unique burger creations, providing locals and visitors with plenty of delicious options to choose from during the event. This festival is expected to draw food enthusiasts, families, and anyone with a passion for burgers, making it a significant occasion for the local dining scene.

Among the eateries taking part, some notable establishments have recently opened or received accolades. Municipal Grand has opened its doors with promising early reviews praising the food quality and reasonable prices. Both Common on Broughton and 1540 Room have been recognized this year with Wine Spectator Awards, highlighting their exceptional wine selections that complement their culinary offerings.

In addition to traditional dining, various food-related developments are taking place in Savannah’s culinary landscape. The Troupial Coffee shop recently reopened under new ownership, now serving customers from 7 am to 11 am at its location on 817 East 70th Street. Meanwhile, Coach’s Corner, a beloved local sports bar, is expanding by taking over the space previously occupied by Tailgate Sports Bar and Grill.

Innovative dining experiences are also emerging. The Electric Moon Rooftop at Plant Riverside District has launched a new brunch event named Amp’d, featuring a lively atmosphere with delicious food, a DJ for entertainment, and stunning views of the surrounding area. Simultaneously, the Starland District is undergoing various development projects, including the upcoming Garden Square, an indoor/outdoor venue themed around gardens that will offer elevated bites and a creative cocktail program.

Additionally, Sixby, a bakery and sandwich shop located in Thomas Square, has introduced indoor seating and continues to be popular for lunchtime offerings. Looking towards the future, a Michigan-based steakhouse chain, Bowdie’s Chophouse, is expected to open at Eastern Wharf, although it may not welcome customers until Spring 2025. Another anticipated establishment, The Darling Oyster Bar, is projected to open in 2025.

In conjunction with gastronomic events, the Savannah Tequila Festival will take place on August 2nd at Victory North. This festival boasts a selection of 50 unique craft tequilas and offers tickets starting at $52. The local dining scene is also celebrating milestones, with Cotton and Rye marking its 10-year anniversary and Service Brewing Company reaching its 5th year.

Other developments include the sale of the building at 37th and Abercorn, previously the site of La Scala Italian Restaurant, which has sparked speculation about its future use. A new food-centric event, Bateau, is on the calendar to be held on Daufuskie Island from October 23-26, 2025. On a smaller scale, the food truck Firemost Pizza continues to serve tavern-style pies frequently found at Broad Creek Marina. Finally, Origin Coffee Bar is set to open on Main Street in Hilton Head Island on August 1st, and a Fried Chicken and Champagne Dinner is scheduled for September 24th on Hilton Head Island.
