News Summary

Savannah has launched a complete redesign of its city website, prioritizing user experience and accessibility based on community feedback. This marks the third major overhaul since 2012, aiming to improve navigation and service access for residents and visitors. The site attracted over 1.5 million visitors in 2024, reflecting its importance in communicating vital city services. Key features include a streamlined menu, organized content for easy navigation, and optimization for mobile devices, which accounted for over 61% of site traffic. The redesign demonstrates Savannah’s commitment to serving its community better.

Savannah has officially launched a complete redesign of its city website, now accessible at www.savannahga.gov. The update aims to enhance user experience and improve accessibility, led by community feedback and usage analytics.

This marks the third major redesign of the city’s website since 2012, as the site has undergone updates every three to five years. The primary goal of the current redesign is to focus on citizen and customer needs instead of promotional content, responding to suggestions from community members and City Council members for better functionality and navigation.

In 2024 alone, the city website attracted over 1.5 million visitors, generating an impressive 4.8 million pageviews. Key statistics from last year included more than 500,000 users engaging with the main page and utility bill payment portal, 230,000 utilizing the search function, and 114,000 checking the pay citations page. Popular sections also included the St. Patrick’s Day Parade page, visited by 96,000 users, and hurricane information sought by 78,000 individuals.

Improved Navigation and User Experience

The new website design emphasizes accessibility and user-friendly navigation, making it easier for residents and visitors to locate important services. The home page now features an updated City Updates section directly below the main search bar, providing real-time information about key services such as operations, trash collection, street sweeping, and parking.

Furthermore, the Featured Resources section showcases easy-to-read buttons linking to the top eight city services as identified through analytics and community suggestions. The simplified top menu has been structured to reflect common public needs while still allowing access to more comprehensive departmental navigation.

Organized Content for All Users

The website’s internal pages have been organized into three main categories: Residents/Visitors, Business, and City Services. This clear categorization aims to streamline the navigation process for all users, ensuring that residents can easily find the information they need. Enhanced features in the website redesign include an integrated calendar, expanded video and news flash sections, and translation options to improve accessibility for non-English speaking users.

Mobile Optimization and Future Improvements

With an increasing trend in mobile usage, the redesigned website is optimized for mobile viewing. In 2024, a significant 61.3% of users accessed the site through mobile devices, highlighting the importance of mobile-friendly design.

The Office of Communications was responsible for leading this redesign initiative and will oversee ongoing website operations moving forward. Continuous improvements will be prompted by weekly traffic analyses, and the city plans to release a public survey to gather further user feedback.

Community members who wish to provide feedback or inquiries can do so via email at opc@savannahga.gov. This initiative represents Savannah’s commitment to enhancing the accessibility of city services for all residents and making crucial information readily available.

In summary, the redesign of Savannah’s city website is a comprehensive effort to improve user experience and access to vital city services, advocating for community engagement and ongoing enhancement of digital services.
