Savannah, GA – Savannah Police arrested 32-year-old Timothy Simpson on July 25 for trafficking illegal drugs and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The arrest came after police received tips from community members alerting them to suspicious activities in the area.

The Savannah Police Department collaborated with the Chatham Savannah Narcotics Team to carry out the arrest, which took place during a search of a residence located in the 10 block of Hughes Avenue. During the search, authorities uncovered significant quantities of illegal items, including approximately 7.5 pounds of marijuana edibles, 0.5 pounds of psilocybin mushroom edibles, and about 2 pounds of marijuana. Additionally, a K9 unit discovered an extra 16.9 pounds of marijuana in the vicinity, bringing the total amount of illegal substances recovered to substantial levels.

Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther emphasized the importance of teamwork between the police department and the narcotics team, highlighting the contributions of the K9 unit in this major drug bust. The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities encouraging community members to report any relevant information. In a separate incident on the same day, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office apprehended two suspects during a traffic violation which led to a chase. Law enforcement recovered large quantities of drugs and weapons during this operation. The Sheriff noted that this incident represented a proactive approach to law enforcement in the area. Plans are in place to transfer the confiscated drugs and weapons to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on July 28.

Furthermore, a juvenile was arrested for two attempted armed robberies at local drugstores within a short 15-minute span on the same day. The robberies targeted CVS on Stephenson Avenue and Savannah RX on Eisenhower Drive. The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been charged with armed robbery and is currently being held at the Chatham County Regional Youth Detention Center.

Adding to the recent spate of law enforcement activities, an eight-count indictment was unsealed in the Southern District of Georgia. This indictment charges 30 alleged members of the “Sex Money Murder” gang with various crimes, including murder, racketeering, and drug trafficking. This gang, identified as a subset of the Bloods, has been implicated in violent retaliatory actions and has engaged in extensive drug trafficking operations throughout the Savannah area. Additionally, members of the gang are accused of participating in fraudulent schemes tied to federal COVID-19 relief programs, resulting in intended losses exceeding $850,000.

The recent events in Savannah underscore the significant efforts undertaken by law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes and ensure the safety of the community. The commitment to pursuing justice and promoting public safety remains a top priority, as indicated by the ongoing investigations and arrests made in connection with various criminal activities across the region. Community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement continue to play a crucial role in addressing these pressing issues facing Savannah.
