Residents and visitors gather at Savannah's farmers market, enjoying local produce and community spirit.
Savannah is enhancing its culinary offerings this summer with the inauguration of two new farmers markets and a number of culinary events. The Midtown Farmers Market in Baldwin Park and the Savannah Sunset Market on Hutchinson Island aim to provide fresh produce and create community engagement. Additional pop-up dining events, new restaurants like FishBar Savannah and Darling Oyster Bar, and engaging community events promise to offer diverse culinary experiences for locals and visitors alike.
Savannah is set to enhance its culinary scene this summer with the launch of two new farmers markets, numerous culinary events, and exciting dining establishments that are making their way into the city. The new offerings aim to provide residents and visitors with fresh produce, unique dining experiences, and vibrant community gatherings.
The Midtown Farmers Market has officially opened its doors in the Baldwin Park neighborhood at 222 East 41st Street. Operating every Wednesday from 3 PM to 7 PM, this market is a collaboration among culinary groups Sixby, Lone Wolf Lounge, and Over Yonder, bringing together popular vendors who typically sell at Forsyth Park’s Saturday market. This initiative is designed to serve the community by providing access to fresh, local produce and artisanal goods.
Another addition to the Savannah food scene is the Savannah Sunset Market, which will take place on Hutchinson Island on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays of each month. Situated near the condos on the eastern edge of the Westin Savannah Harbor, the Sunset Market promises a unique experience with live music and stunning sunset views of the Savannah River, appealing to both residents and tourists.
In addition to the new farmers markets, several culinary events are scheduled for the summer season. For seafood enthusiasts, Sorry Charlie’s on Congress Street will host a Sushi Pop-up featuring talent from Jacksonville Beach’s O-KU Restaurant on Thursday, May 29th, from 5 PM to 11 PM. This event is expected to draw sushi lovers eager to enjoy fresh creations in a casual setting.
The Eat It and Like It Supper Club will also be hosting two upcoming dinners that are open to the public, slated for July 20th and August 24th. These dinners promise to be a gastronomic delight, providing community members with a chance to enjoy unique culinary experiences. Additionally, the popular Heritage Fire Tour will return to Savannah on June 29th at the Pit and Paddock, presenting attendees with a focus on local flavors cooked over an open flame.
New restaurants are also in the works, contributing to Savannah’s dynamic food landscape. FishBar Savannah, an innovative seafood ‘open flame’ concept, is set to open in early to mid-July in the Starland District. Meanwhile, an Italian eatery named Lucia, helmed by chef Kyle Jacovino, is expected to welcome customers a few months down the line in the same area.
The Darling Oyster Bar is anticipated to launch this summer, with updates on its progress being shared through social media, while Sunday Sunday, a new brunch spot, is also in the pipeline at the intersection of Congress and Whitaker Streets, slated for opening in the coming months. For BBQ lovers, Jim and Nick’s BBQ is currently under construction in the parking lot adjacent to Oglethorpe Mall, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for June 18th, indicating their eagerness to serve the community soon. Additionally, Sushi Hani is in the mid-build stage in the former B&D Burgers location near Lowe’s Home Improvement Store on Abercorn.
Moreover, Klom Klom Thai, a new Thai restaurant from the family behind PJ’s Thai, promises an exceptional lunch experience once it opens. These new dining options, along with the farmers markets, collectively aim to enrich Savannah’s culinary offerings and support local agriculture.
As part of its community outreach, the Forsyth Farmers’ Market will temporarily relocate for the upcoming SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival on April 26, 2025. On May 18, 2025, the market will host the Family Feast, an event designed to support local initiatives, featuring live entertainment, BBQ, and activities for children. Tickets for the Family Feast will be priced at $35 for adults and $15 for youth ages 5-10, with free admission for children under five.
As Savannah welcomes these farmers markets, culinary events, and new dining establishments, residents can look forward to an exciting summer filled with fresh produce and memorable dining experiences.
