The vibrant football field at Savannah High School, alive with cheers as the new chapter begins for the team.
Savannah High School has appointed Moses Green as the new head football coach, aiming to revitalize the team after a challenging period. Green, who previously served as the defensive coordinator at Jenkins High School, brings valuable experience and local ties. He aims to turn around the Blue Jackets’ 36-game losing streak and foster a culture of excellence for student-athletes. Green’s vision includes focusing on both athletic and personal development, with the community hopeful for a positive change in the program’s fortunes.
Savannah High School has officially appointed Moses Green as its new head football coach, aiming to revitalize the struggling program. Green is stepping into this role after the departure of former coach Anthony “Bud” Tolliver, who recorded an 0-20 record during his time with the team.
This marks Green’s first head coaching position. He arrives at Savannah High with valuable experience, having served as the defensive coordinator at Jenkins High School for the past four years. Under his guidance, Jenkins experienced its best season in recent years, posting a commendable 10-3 record in the 2024 season and making it to the Class 5A state quarterfinals in 2023.
During Green’s tenure at Jenkins, the team achieved a five-game winning streak leading into the playoffs, showcasing his ability to lead a team to success. Prior to Jenkins, he was part of the coaching staff at Savannah High from 2014 to 2016. While there, he contributed significantly to the team’s last playoff appearance in 2016, solidifying his ties to the community and the program.
Despite its storied history, the Savannah High football program faces challenging times. The team has not won a game since 2021 and heads into the 2025 season with a staggering 36-game losing streak. The need for a turnaround is evident, and Coach Green’s appointment serves as a beacon of hope for the Blue Jackets’ faithful.
Moses Green’s coaching journey began at his alma mater, Bethesda Academy. He has also coached at South Effingham High School, Claxton High School, and Beach High School, gathering a wealth of experience that he hopes to bring to Savannah High. In addition to coaching, Green holds a degree in civil engineering from Savannah State University, where he graduated in 2016. He is also a certified teacher and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Georgia Southern University.
Green’s vision for Savannah High is to build a culture of excellence, focusing not only on athletic success but also on the personal development of his student-athletes. His local connections and rapport with players have been highlighted as significant strengths by the Blue Jackets’ athletic director, George Brown. With a clear plan in place, Green aims to foster a positive environment conducive to growth and achievement.
As Moses Green takes the helm, the Savannah High community looks forward to seeing what changes he can implement. His previous successes at Jenkins and familiarity with the local football landscape position him as a promising leader for the Blue Jackets moving forward. The transition to this new chapter in Savannah High School’s football history will be closely monitored as Green sets out to end the team’s long-standing struggles, potentially marking the beginning of a new era.
