Joellen Cooper-Pyles and Victor Deen have officially moved into their new luxury riverfront condo at The Mayors in Savannah’s Upper East River neighborhood. The couple became the first residents of the newly completed building in February 2025, after an extensive wait of five-and-a-half years following their initial contract signing prior to the start of construction.
The Mayors building features five penthouse-style residences, each occupying an entire floor. Cooper-Pyles and Deen’s three-bedroom, four-bathroom penthouse offers an impressive 75 feet of floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that open to a private terrace. Here, they can enjoy expansive views of the river, cargo ships, and playful dolphins, making each day a delightful experience.
For the couple, moving into The Mayors marks a significant new beginning, especially as they celebrate their 10th anniversary while both having endured the loss of previous spouses. The pair first met at a homeowners association gathering in their former neighborhood, Causton Bluff, where they discovered a shared appreciation for community living.
The couple’s journey to their new home was guided by Melinda Martin Bailey, an associate broker with Seabolt Real Estate, who facilitated not only their purchase but also the interior design of the penthouse. Bailey noted the importance of finding a lifestyle that fits the couple’s social nature, in addition to securing a suitable living space.
In terms of location, the couple enjoys easy access to a variety of dining options, including Thompson Savannah, as well as the benefits of living near downtown. Cooper-Pyles had a hand in the building’s design, contributing suggestions that led to the incorporation of state-of-the-art smart-home systems and efficient storage solutions.
The luxurious penthouse showcases a modern aesthetic while also respecting traditional styles, achieved through years of sourcing unique decor elements. The open floor plan is complemented by 10-foot-high ceilings, adding a sense of spaciousness throughout the home.
Cooper-Pyles’ hobbies include sewing and collecting, while Deen enjoys coin collecting. The couple’s love for history and local art comes to life through distinctive displays in their home, including ancient arrowheads and Victorian-era Indian clubs. A notable focal point is a gallery-like exhibit featuring stoneware pottery crafted by notable artisans from Crawford County, Georgia, which ties into their personal heritage and the state’s rich artisanal history.
The couple’s appreciation for the historical significance of their pottery mirrors their deep-rooted love for Georgia history. As they begin settling into their new penthouse, Cooper-Pyles and Deen express their relief and gratitude for the completion of The Mayors, reflecting on their extended wait and reinforcing their belief that the wait has truly been worthwhile.
With their new residence now a reality, the couple looks forward to building new memories and welcoming friends into their luxury living space that elegantly blends modern comfort with treasured traditions.
