Nicholes Holbrook, a 17-year-old from Wilmington Island, has been granted a $1,500 bond after facing serious arson and theft charges. Accused of setting fire to five homes and stealing from McDonald’s, Holbrook will undergo treatment at a care center, with strict conditions placed on his release. This incident, along with a separate fire caused by a gas line failure, has raised concerns about fire safety in the community. Wilmington Island – A 17-year-old named Nicholes Holbrook has been granted bond after facing serious charges related to multiple fire incidents on Wilmington Island. Holbrook, who was arrested in January, is accused of setting fire to five homes and committing theft at a local McDonald’s. The Chatham County court held a bond hearing on Friday, resulting in a bond release set at $1,500.
Holbrook’s charges are extensive, including burglary in the 2nd degree, four counts of arson in the 1st degree, and criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree. The conditions of Holbrook’s release are strict and mandated by the court. He is required to be transported to a care center in Augusta where he will undergo treatment. The court has made it clear that if Holbrook leaves the care center before completing the program, his bond will be revoked, leading to his return to jail. Upon successful completion of the treatment, Holbrook will also have to wear an ankle monitor.
The treatment center where Holbrook will be staying specializes in accommodating patients between the ages of 8 to 17 and deals with various psychological diagnoses, offering a secure environment for recovery. This setting is deemed suitable given the serious nature of his offenses.
The incidents connected to Holbrook occurred between late November and January, with a series of fires that raised alarm in the Wilmington Island community. The fires varied in severity, but all contributed to significant property damage. In addition to Holbrook’s situation, the Chatham County Fire Department is currently responding to a separate issue, involving a three-alarm fire seemingly caused by a gas line failure in a sauna room of a private home. A firefighter was transported as a precaution during the response to this fire, but fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
In related news, authorities have taken action against two other individuals, Hunter Stone Phillips and Ian Purvis, who are suspected of intentionally setting a fire in Bennett last November. Phillips is facing charges of second-degree arson and felony conspiracy, while Purvis has been charged with felony conspiracy. Both suspects have been released on a written promise to appear in court, with their first appearance scheduled for February 17.
