SAVANNAH, Ga. — Drivers headed into downtown Savannah, Ga., on Wednesday, Nov. 11, will need another route for most of the day, as a stretch of streets closes for the 2026 Veterans Day Parade.
The Savannah Police Department and the city set the closures to last nine hours, starting at 6 a.m. and lifting at 3 p.m. The parade itself steps off at 10 a.m.
The closed roads include Abercorn Street between Gwinnett and Liberty streets, Liberty Street between Abercorn and Montgomery, Montgomery Street between Liberty and Broughton, and Broughton Street out to Price Street. Lincoln Street will also be shut between Duffy and Gwinnett, and the blocks of Bolton Street, Waldburg Street, Park Avenue and Gwinnett Street that run from Drayton over to Habersham will be blocked too.
Parking restrictions start an hour earlier. Starting at 5 a.m., no parking zones apply on the route and on side blocks near the staging area, and they stay in force until the parade is over. The zones will not be marked ahead of time, but notices are going up in the affected blocks this week. Any car left inside a zone after the posted time will be towed, and the owner pays.
The procession should wrap up near the corner of Broughton and Habersham by about 3 p.m. Police are asking drivers to map out their trips ahead of time and to be patient around the route.
The parade is one of several ways the city will mark the holiday. After it ends, VFW Post 660 plans to serve free meals to veterans at its canteen and grill at 5115 Ogeechee Road, serving plates of pulled pork with green beans and mac and cheese.
More road work follows later in the week. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the state traffic system shows eastbound I-16 shut at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard area between 4 and 10:30 a.m., while Victory Drive will be closed where it meets Paulsen Street between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m.
