SAVANNAH, Ga. — The second night of the SCAD Savannah Film Festival brought awards for Jessica Lange and filmmaker Jordan Firstman on Sunday, with fans lining up outside Trustees Theater on Broughton Street hours before the red carpet opened.
People started gathering around 2 p.m., more than three hours ahead of the first arrivals, a SCAD spokesperson said.
Lange accepted the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Firstman took home the Rising Star Director Award for Club Kid, his first feature, which he wrote, directed and stars in. The film follows a club promoter who suddenly finds himself raising a boy of 10 he had no idea was his, and Firstman said it looks at the gap between the self people show the world and who they are in private.
The cast of The Mosquito Bowl, a war-era sports drama, collected the Ensemble Award. Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgard, Tom Francis and Ray Nicholson walked the carpet for that film.
The night also featured Forgotten Island, the newest animated release from DreamWorks, about two friends stuck on a magical island who must find a way out before they forget each other. Director Joel Crawford and Liza Soberano, who voices the character Raissa, made the trip to Savannah for the screening. The story draws on Filipino mythology, and its makers described it as a celebration of friendship at a time when many people feel more isolated.
Students in the college’s film and television programs also came out to watch and meet working filmmakers on the carpet.
